Lies from the Dark Side

Satan's Lies God's Truth
I am worthless. God values me (Col. 3:12)
I can't be what God expects me to be. God will complete the work He started in me. (Phil.1:6)
I have to control my life because God wouldn't control it the way I wanted Him to. God has a good plan for my future. (Jer. 29:11-13)
I'm not beautiful . I am beautiful in Christ.. (Isa. 61:1-6)
vI have to be thin in order to be considered attractive or loveable. Beauty comes from within (1 Peter 3:4)
I have to be perfect. God's grace is the only thing perfect within me. (Eph.2:8-9)
Being engaged in sexual activity proves I am attractive and loveable . Sexual activity outside of marriage only makes me feel worse about myself because it is sin. (Rom. 6:19-23)
I'm a bad person and nothing can change that. Christ has appointed me to do his good work. (Eph.2:10)
Because of the family I come from, I will always have these problems. I am part of God's family. (Eph. 1:4-5)
I'm the only one who struggles with these problems. Everyone struggles. (Rom. 7:21-24)
I need to exercise everyday in order to be acceptable. Godliness training is needed daily. (I Tim.4:8)
It's a sign of independence to rebel against authority. God requires submission to authority. (Ro.13: 1-2)
I must be accepted by certain others in order to feel good about myself. I have been fully accepted by God through Christ.(Ro.5: 10, 11)
Those who fail are unworthy of love and deserve to be punished. Christ took the punishment for my sin for me; Christ satisfied God's wrath by His death on the Cross! (Ro.3; 25)
Excerpts from Shine: Embracing God's Heart for You, by Amy Rienow & Search for Significance, by Robert McGee

"To Renew: Reject & Replace"

We must first identify the lies that we have been believing. As we have seen, this is not a passive process.

Amy Rienow in her book, Shine: Embracing God's Heart for You, (page 82) summarizes the questions you must learn to ask yourself in this process of renewing your mind. (Romans 12: 1-2) Do not just merely answer these questions in your head, instead write them down. This will help you identify erroneous thinking.

Reject the Lie:
The lie I have believed:
How has believing this lie affected me?
How has believing this lie affected my relationship with God?
How has believing this lie affected my relationships with others?

  Replace it with God's Truth:
God's Truth:
If I believed God's truth, how would this affect me?
If I believed God's truth, how would this affect my relationship with God?
If I believed God's truth, how would this affect my relationships with others?
